Democrat for San Miguel County Commissioner District Two, New Mexico

Vote Walt Borton for San Miguel County Commissioner District Two

” My life and career have been a mix of public service, public policy, education, and executive level management. I am running for the San Miguel County Commissioner District Two”

Walt Borton

Who is Walt Borton and Why is He Running

I love San Miguel County and have been so warmly received here that I would like to keep my side of the bargain by being a more active part of the community that has welcomed Zand supported me since the day I arrived in Villanueva, on the Lovato Acequia, mid-2022.

I was raised in a small town, Red Cloud, NE, until the 4th Grade when my folks moved to Dayton, OH. They moved back to Red Cloud when I was 24 – to the town they considered “home” and lived out their lives there. My Dad’s name is on the football field where he coached and my Mom had an antique shop, sold real estate and as County Democratic Chair, made sure Webster County went for Barack Obama twice.

THEN I moved to Villanueva in San Miguel County & discovered what being ‘home’ really means.

I’ve lived in Dayton, Cincinnati, Washington DC, Boston, Ithaca, New York City, Los Angles, San Francisco, Naples, Italy & London, England.

When I moved to Santa Fe County in 1996, being back in the west, I thought I was “home again.”

THEN I moved to Villanueva in San Miguel County & discovered what being “home” really means.

Everywhere I’ve lived, I’ve looked for ways that my experience and opportunities might be able to help. Like other wonderful places in New Mexico, the US and the world, we’ve got some serious problems, but if we talk with each other, listen to each other and plan together, we can start fixing them. I want to be part of that effort.

Lets Work Together to tackle the issues most important to you and San Miguel County

In my experience public officials work best for you when they work closely with you.
Not just during the campaign, but during a term as Commissioner, I want to make sure we are in touch with each other – to make sure the Commission is aware of, and dealing with, problems in YOUR neighborhood and so that I understand and learn from your experiences.

For example, in two years here it looks to me like the big problems our County Commission can help with are:

  • Roads & Public Services
  • Disaster Recovery and Compensation
  • Community Safety and Fire Protection
  • Disaster Planning
  • Water & the Environment
  • Disaster Response
  • Animal Control and Protection
  • Resources for Our Youth
  • Services for Our Elders
  • Taxes, Permitting and Zoning
  • Jobs & Economic Development

What should we add to this list?

How do you see these issues?

Here are some of the ways we can start working together.
